› The area, predominantly of hills and mountains, offer to
the visitors the great variety of landscapes and sightseeing.
The sequence of valleys, mountain chains, hills and plains crossed by
numerous rivers and lakes is the main characteristic of Umbria region.
Marmore Waterfalls
| › From the east of Terni, there are the Marmore Waterfalls, the falls formed by the River Velino at its confluence with the River Nera. The falls were created by a Roman consul in 271 B.C. to prevent further marshiness of the area The falls plunge down vertically in three leaps, a total drop of 165m/545ft, and are illuminated in the period from May to August. |

The Oasis of Alviano
| › Instituted in 1978 in an area
of 800 hectares and inserted in the Parco Fluviale del Tevere,
it includes the whole artificial basin of the lake of Alviano.
Since 1990, the WWF runs an animal reserve, in a context of rich
vegetation. One of the activities is bird-watching, enriched by
the presence of rare migratory birds. |

Lake Trasimeno
| › The Park was created to protect and at the same time exploit Lake Trasimeno, one of the largest lakes of the Italian peninsula with a surface of 128km/q. Lake Trasimeno has all the features of a great natural resource which must be strictly protected and promoted as far as the uses compatible to its conservation are concerned. There are three islands in the lake: Polvese, Maggiore and Minore. |

The volcanoes of San Venanzo
| › San Venanzo, the Orvietan town closest to Perugia stands on the tufaceous material formed by the activity one of the two volcanic cones in the area. The second volcano is at Pian di Celle, 800 meters away. After some exploding activity, it slowly let out lava in prehistoric times, depositing a very hard stone, unique in the world, called venanzite. |
